A Midsummer Night’s Dream
5 January to 30 January 2009
A Midsummer Night’s Dream was Shakespeare WA’s first production in Kings Park after Deckchair Theatre relinquished their contract to produce Shakespeare in the Park. The 1890’s setting proved to be a extremely popular and established the company’s unique branding as “Shakespeare for Everyone.”
The spectacular cast included Elizabeth Blackmore, Kylie Farmer, Michelle Fornasier, Arielle Gray, Glenn Hall, Sam Longley, Kyle Morrison, Will O’Mahony, and TJ Power.
The 2009 season of Shakespeare in the Park was one of the most memorable in the history of this beloved Perth tradition!
Jan Hallam in The Sunday Times: “it is an absolute pleasure from start to finish.”
“What worked extremely well was the acknowledgement of place — Kings Park is a gloriously physical yet deeply spiritual location and Newmark harnesses the power of them both.”
“The balanced cast of steady heads and eager freshman worked beautifully.”
“In the anarchy of the darkening bush — and the realm of the fairies — the wonders of the play and this production come to life.”
“You will ache with laughter and cry from joy.”
“Newmark and his band of players have done great justice to Shakespeare’s complex comedy — and most importantly laid down a solid benchmark for this event.”
Ali Taulbut in The West: headlines “Bard’s a Dream ticket”
“Punters are assured of a crown pleaser” and “Sam Longely’s . . . endlessly inventive, hilarious, over-blown death scene . . . is worth the ticket price alone”
Sarah McNeill in The Post: Headlines “it’s a Dream come true”
“a joy to watch”
“the Dream really comes to life”
